Overalls have been trending now for the past year or so. My first reaction was "yuck!" (and believe me when I say, I don't blame you if you still feel this way). But after seeing my best friend get a pair, and watching another good friend romp around in her's last summer, my mind began to change. There was something about overalls that fascinated me. Somehow they showed off the best qualities, the most lovely quirks about the person wearing them. Suddenly I found myself searching all the thrift stores for ones of my own. And when I finally found them (and cut the legs off to make them shorts) I figured out why I needed them so badly...
When I jumped into that pair, for the first in what? 15 years, it came rushing to me at once: CAREFREE and all the adjectives that go along with the word – unworried, untroubled, blithe, airy, nonchalant, insouciant, happy-go-lucky, free and easy, easygoing, relaxed, mellow; informal, laid-back, loosey-goosey ← that last one's my favorite!
When I'm in my overalls I feel young (for obvious reasons), wild (like I can go anywhere and do anything), and free (not constrained by worries and fears). I also feel a tad bit vulnerable, like I'm sharing a big secret with the world, probably because I don't take myself so seriously when I look in the mirror and see those denim straps draped over my shoulders. I'm just me in that denim jumper and that's exactly who I want to be.
So my advice to you is, if you want to wear overalls, wear overalls, if you want to wear crocs, wear crocs, if you want to wear ______, wear ______! Be happy, be comfortable, be fun, and, most importantly, be you!
Happy Strapping!
