We got a puppy! We had a baby – or at least, that's what it feels like... ;) And how did we get said "uber cute" puppy baby? To say it simply, we have some mega-awesome friends up in Portland who happened to have a litter of Cavapoo (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Toy Poodle Mix) puppies when we were up visiting. Kaytlyn (the owner of these pups) let us know pretty much right as we walked through the door that she was giving one away, the little runt – named Dean at the time. And seriously, how could you resist this face below (the first picture was what he looked like then) :
There's probably not a super big difference in the two pictures above, to you at least, but when we brought him home he was a mere 1.8 lbs and he fit in our hands. Now he is 2.8 lbs! We can cuddle him in our arms now (we couldn't do that before). He has now had 2 of his 4 shots (yay!) and in a month, after the rabies shot, will be able to romp around in the great outdoors like a big kid dog. I can't wait because he's a prime candidate for a nice stick to chew on.
Now to clue you in a bit on his unique qualities and special quirks:
He definitely has a bit of "small dog syndrome" which results in crouching under dressers, squeezing into tiny spaces, and fitting in a pet carrier built for a kitten. He can't jump up onto the couch or bed (which is probably a good thing). Luckily though he has learned to land on his feet when he falls off – which has happened a few times. But being small doesn't stop him from trying to climb up things (one of his cat-like qualities). He got on the couch by himself yesterday – I honestly have no idea how he managed to climb up.
He's a Rans through and through, so of course he loves Star Wars!
And I'll tell ya, the force is strong in him!
He may be small, but he is one of the most strong-willed pups I have ever met. He has a fight that (you will conquer) but will, no doubt, shock your expectations. Nonetheless, he's a sweetheart that truly just wants to impress you with such tenacious dispositions.
And those eyes! Of course he has already nailed the puppy dog look. Let me tell you, it is INCREDIBLY hard to crate train him when he looks like this ALL THE TIME. We are doing it though, primarily because we want him to be a respectable and well-mannered pup, and also because we would probably squish him if he tried to sleep on the bed with us, or lose him if we let him run loose in the house all the time.
He also has the most loveable little ears. They are crimped, floppy and the perfect caramel complexion!
Last but not least, his lovely terrorist side. Like all little ones he is one heck of a mischief monkey, who loves poking his nose in everything he is not supposed to. His favorites being our gold sofa chair, my succulent garden (which is now surrounded in chicken wire) and power chords of all kinds.
To wrap this up I'll say that we our incredibly happy with the new addition to our home, and being that our one year anniversary is just around the corner, it couldn't have been a more better time to add him to the mix! We love you Gus.
Happy Puppy Days!
