We haven't quite been able to celebrate fall this year – mainly because the weather stubbornly refuses to drop below 70 and, of course, the big move for my parents has us all in a fluster, making things like trips to the pumpkin patch almost impossible. Don't you fret though, we were still able to get our pumpkin fix for the year!
Many people grow pumpkins for times such as these, but I believe these particular pumpkins were a surprise for Mama. I think the story goes that she threw out her old pumpkin in the field for slaughter last year, and before she knew it, vines began to sprout up out of the ground. (I'm pretty sure the septic tank deep under ground probably had a hand in fertilizing these little garden surprises, but I won't say much more about that.)
Naturally Mama was eager to cut them from the vine and asked me to document the pick. This woman really knows how to enjoy life. So she'll have them by the front door till the last day and then they'll go on the road with them. I was happy to bring a little one back home to Osos too.
In a season of chaos, we need to be willing to slow down for a moment and "smell the roses" – in this case, pick the pumpkins!
Happy Picking!
