Yesterday I saw two bumper stickers on the back of a truck.
The first read “Phone Free Car” accompanied by a picture of a cellphone with a bold, red slash through it. The second said “How am I driving?” with a number for you to call.
I was getting two completely opposite messages here.
One informed me that the car in front of me could be trusted; that the driver would have his eyes on the road instead of on his phone. The other urged me to get on MY phone to track his driving, in turn making me the unsafe driver. What the heck!?
This thoroughly upset me and, sad to say, got me thinking about my own driving habits.
How in the world can I be so upset with Mr. Truck Man when I’m the guilty one!?
So many times I’m the one sending texts, taking pictures, snap-chatting, checking social networks, and so-on while driving. This realization led me to make an impulsive decision…
I would renew my promise to not text and drive; this time extending it towards restricting all usage of my phone while driving. Not only do I want to be a safer driver, but I also want to be free of attachment to my phone.
If you are someone who has already vowed to not be a “phoney” (bad puns are the best puns) driver, then two thumbs up to you!
On the contrary, if you’re in my boat, thinking “Dangit!’, it’s your lucky day to make the right choice and vow to be phone-free with me.
When’s the last time you promised to make a change?
When’s the last time you actually stuck with the change long enough that it became your way of life? I’m going to take a wild guess and assume it’s been quite a while – I know it has been for me.
You don’t want to be the person swerving in front of you.
And you definitely don’t want to be the person who got in an accident because your phone “dinged” and you just couldn’t wait.
I won’t be guilty any longer. I’m striving for a new way of life.
Let me inspire you. The decision seems “impossible”, but in reality, it’s far too doable to pass up.
Choose to be unattached.
Happy Driving!
