Long before we got engaged, (well, I guess not too long, considering that was only 4 months ago, and we had only been together 4 months before that…) David and I decided that we both wanted to have a not-so-traditional honeymoon. Instead of venturing off to a tropical paradise or exploring European history, we agreed on finding a cozy cabin on a lake in Alaska. Somewhere quiet and undisturbed, where we could spend the day in our lounge pants reading Lord of the Rings or wandering through nature in peaceful silence. Alaska was the plan but, apparently, God had something better in store for us.
In the midst of wedding planning, I made some new friends, a lovely couple from Montreal who were staying in Carpinteria and had caught a liking for the coffee shop I worked at. We connected right away. I remember thinking how sad it was going to be when they left; I might never see them again, but that was not going to be the case.
You see, my new friends found out I was getting married and instantly offered for my fiancé and I to stay at their chalét lake house in Montreal for the honeymoon. None of our Alaska plans were set in stone and at the sound of their offer I felt that this was meant to be.
They showed me photos of the chalét and I couldn’t believe my eyes as I gazed upon the cabin on a lake I had been envisioning in my head for the past 6 months. Within a week we bought our tickets and began planning a Canadian honeymoon.
I cannot believe that we are here already. The air is damp with rain, the lakes are covered with ice, the chalét is keeping us toasty warm with a wood burning stove, and we are more in love than ever before.
I love how God always goes above and beyond in fulfilling the desires of my heart; and at the same time manages to weave people from all areas of the world together.
Not only, did we get our dream trip, but we got two amazing friends that will be in our lives forever.
Happy Beginnings!
