A year ago this week, I got off work, packed up my car, and drove up to SLO for the biggest move of my life (literally).
Biggest move? Let me explain:
I lived in the same house for 18 years until I moved out for college. I was in a dorm room at Azusa Pacific University for 7 months, before I decided LA was not for me and moved back into my parents house. I quickly realized that wasn't the best idea (sorry Mom and Dad), so I moved in to town – finally – with my best friend. I lived there for an unexpectedly short time (sorry Isa) due to meeting the love of my life. So 9 months after moving there, I was moving again, moving north. Which brings me back to where I started, a year in SLO, a year in a square.
For those of you who don't know, the "square" is mine and my husband's first place together; a quaint studio with lots of heart but not a lot of room – 400 sq ft to be exact. It's just one, large, square room. (I like to jokingly say that we will never have a room in any other home as big as this.) In the one room we have our bedroom, kitchen, living room, and bathroom (which does have its own door). We also have a small side patio with a cushy papasan chair and a little box garden. You would be surprised how much we (I) fit in this small space – it's quite impressive.
So here's where we stand after living in the square for a year:
- The kitchen's small (literally NO counter space)
- Our table only seats two
- A full bed is pushing it
- The dog takes up about a quarter of the space
- The (one) miniature closet is about to pop
- There are 8 windows
...I think we'll stay :)
Yep, we're extending the lease another year. I guess I'll have to figure out a few more ways to rearrange the floor plan since my first 8 layouts never lasted more than a month or so.
Happy Studio Livin!
